In a ceremony performed, Sat., Dec. 23, Miss Betty Oldfather, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Glen Oldfather, became the bride of Melvin Puffett, son of Mr. and Mrs. Merwyn Puffet, at the First Methodist church, with the Rev. Floyd R. Maynard officiating. The bride's sister, Miss Joyce Oldfather, played the wedding march and accompanied her brother, Raymond Oldfather and Miss Marilyn Puffett, the groom's sister, when they sang "I Love you Truely." The attendants were the bride's sister, Mrs. Francis Fox and the groom's brother, Lloyd Puffett.
After the ceremony, a reception was held in the church dining room. The bride's aunt, Mrs. Joe Peterson of Cedar Rapids, presided at the serving table, and Mrs. Wallace Oldfather was among those in charge of the reception.
The bride graduated in 1948 from the Volga high school and attended Upper Iowa University at Fayette. At present, she is teaching a rural school in Buchanan county. Her husband is an auctioneer having graduated from a school of auctioneering and also assists his father on the Puffett farm south of Volga.
