The following biography was extracted from a lengthly article. Notes enclosed in (parenthesis) are those of the transcriber.
--- ---On Sunday, May 16th, the Rev. and Mrs. K. Wm. Braun of Golden (Illinois) observed their Silver Wedding anniversary. In honor of the event members of the Trinity Lutheran church of which Rev. Braun is pastor, planned an all day celebration, the affair being a surprise to the honored couple.
(The next several paragraphs detailed the celebration.)
Karl William Braun and Cornelia Mueller were united in marriage on May 16, 1912, at the St. Paul's Lutheran church in Garnavillo, Iowa, with the Rev. G. Fred Braun of Atlantic, Iowa, a brother, officiating. Attendants were Miss Iona Pahlas, now Mrs. K.J. Stiehl, a cousin of the bride, and Lloyd Mueller, brother of the bride, as attendants.
To this union four children were born, Gwendolyn, who is a student at Carthage college; Warren, a student at Golden high school; Jeanette and Carlton, attending grade school at Golden.
Rev. Braun, son of Carl and Jeanette Krebs Braun, was born in Bavaria, Germany, on June 3, 1883. His father was pastor and late superintendent of the public school system of the Royal Bavarian schools.
He has three brothers, Herman Braun, who is superintendent of the higher school system of the city of Nueremberg; Adolph Braun, who is judge of the supreme court at Munich, and Otto Braun, who is Districk Bishop of the Bavarian State church. One brother, the Rev. G. Fred Braun of Mendon, died several years ago. He also has two sisters, Mrs. Marie Raab and Mrs. Elizabeth Mueller of Bavaria, Germany.
Rev. Braun received his classical training at the Collegiate high school at Erlangen, Germany; finished his theological schooling at Luther Seminary at St. Paul, Minn. During his years of ministry he took special work at the University of Iowa.
He was called as assistant to a former pastor in Garnavillo, Iowa, and preached his first sermon there on Pentecost Sunday, May 30, 1902. He later succeeded to the ministry of the church there, remaining for twenty-eight years. It was during this period that he was married.
Mrs. Braun, a daughter of John H. and Sarah Pahlas Mueller, was born at Garnavillo, Iowa, on Oct. 12, 1888. She studied at the University of Oregon, specializing in music and voice; she took private lessons under two teachers at Fresno, California; studied voice at the Otto School of Music and piano at the Conservatory of Music at Dubuque, Iowa; attended Iowa State Teachers college at Cedar Falls, Iowa. She also taught music at Monona, Iowa, previous to her marriage.
She is a very accomplished musician and organist and meets entirely all the qualifications of a pastor's wife. She has been very active in congregational work here.
She has two brothers, Lloyd Mueller of Garnavillo, and John Mueller of Miami, Florida. Her mother, Mrs. Sarah Mueller, is also living.
Since coming to Golden, Nov. 1, 1930, the Brauns have contributed much to the welfare of the Trinity church.
