Daniel D. Murphy
Member of Board of Education, was born of Irish parentage near new Diggings, LaFayette Co. Wisconsin, August 22, 1862. He was educated in the public schools of the state of Wisconsin, and graduated from the Wisconsin state normal school. In 1883 he came to Guttenberg, Clayton County, Iowa, as superintendent of the high school, which position he held for three years. in 1887 he was graduated from the law college of the state university of Iowa, and returned to Clayton county, finally locating at Elkader, where he has been engaged in the practice of his profession as a lawyer, for the past twenty-three years. He served as county attorney of Clayton county, from 1891 to 1895; has been a member of the school board at Elkader for the past nine years, and is now serving as such member. He is a member of the Iowa state bar association, of which association he served as president in 1907 and 1908; is also a member of the American bar association, and of the American academy of political and social sciences.
