John Carl Barr

John Carl Barr, son of Henry Barr and Hester Ann Tallman Barr born on January 23, 1900 in Clarke county and died February 4, 1965 at the age of 65 years, 12 days. He received his education in Clarke county rural schools and finished at Cedar Falls Teachers College.

He was united in marriage to Frances Margaret Mongar on August 25, 1926.

They gave his father a home until his death and in later years taking care of her father until his death.

He joined the Osceola Christian church during his young manhood. He served his church as an elder and board member, remaining faithful until his death.

He also served as director of the Clarke Rural Electric Cooperative for several years and held the office of treasurer for the past year.

Being the youngest of ten children, he was preceded in death by his parents, 3 sisters, Mrs. Winifred Mallie of Mt. Vernon, Ia., Miss Hester Barr and little sister, Maggie of Osceola, also one brother George.

Leaving to mourn his death are his devoted wife, Frances; two brothers, Samuel P. Barr of Osceola; Hal Barr of Clarinda; three sisters, Mrs. Ora Barcus of Weldon, Ia.; Mrs. O’Del Kerns of Salem, Ore., and Minifred Chapin of Tripoli, Ia.; one sister-in-law, Mrs. George Barr of Osceola and one brother-in-law, George Mallie of Mt. Vernon, and many nieces, nephews, relatives, friends and neighbors.

Services were held Saturday, Feb. 6, 2:00 p.m. at the First Christian church with Rev. Clinton D. Wolf, officiating. Burial was in Maple Hill cemetery.
