Ruth Wilkie Hyndman, 98, of Boone, Iowa and former long-time Cherokee, Iowa and Larrabee, Iowa area resident, passed away Wednesday, July 29, 1998, in the Evangelical Free Church Home in Boone following a short illness.
Funeral services will be held Friday, July 31 at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee. Burial will be in the Cedar Cemetery at Larrabee.
Mrs. Hyndman was born April 20, 1900, in Ida County, Iowa to Delbert and Daisy (Penrod) Dunkelberger. She was married to John Wilkie on September 5, 1917, at Cherokee. They lived on a farm near Larrabee until his death on October 21, 1916. She was later married to John Hyndman of Cherokee on September 12, 1969, in Sutherland, Iowa. They lived in Cherokee until he passed away on October 13, 1975. She continued to live in Cherokee until she entered the Sunset Knoll Retirement home in Aurelia, Iowa where she resided from 1991 until 1993 when she moved to the Evangelical Free Church Home in Boone to be near to her daughter. She was a member of the St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Cherokee.
Survivors include two daughters: H. Maxine Johnson, Yuma, Arizona; and Elaine R Gano, Boone; a son, Jimmie Dean Wilkie and his wife, Patricia, Algonquin, Illinois; a daughter-in-law, Dorothy Wilkie, Cherokee; a stepson, Richard Hyndman, California; a stepdaughter-in-law, Mildred Hyndman, Cherokee; 14 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren, several step-grandchildren; and a brother, Arthur Dunkelberger and his wife, Mary, Mesa, Arizona.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Gladys Cleaver; a son, John O. Wilkie; a stepson, Winston Hyndman; three brothers, and three sisters.
The family requests that memorials be made to the Evangelical Free Church Home at 114 W. Fourth St. in Boone, Iowa 50036.
