MRS. JOHN KNOX CALLED BY DEATH
Passed Away at Her Home in Marcus On Sunday, August 27

Marcus News: Mrs. John Knox, for nearly thirty-five years a resident of Marcus, died at 10:30 o’clock last Sunday forenoon, August 27, at her home in this city, following a long period of ill health covering a period of seven years. Her trouble was diabetes. At times her health was much better, and she seemed to have been better during the past year and a half. It was only since last June that Mrs. Knox’s condition took a decided turn for the worse and since that time, she had been on a more rapid decline than at any previous time. Likewise, relatives and friends prepared ? measure to a realization that the days on earth of this kind-hearted and good woman were not many. Mrs. Knox submitted to a minor operation at a Sioux City hospital a week before her death, and while there her condition became more critical, and she was removed home last Friday evening and continued to grow worse. At between 2 and 3 o’clock Saturday afternoon she fell into unconsciousness and remained so until the end. When the final summons came at 10:30 Sunday forenoon the husband and six sons and others were at the bedside.

Funeral services were conducted at the Methodist church Tuesday afternoon. The last sad rites were largely attended by relatives and by many friends who had known the decedent during her long residence in Marcus. The remains were interred in the Marcus cemetery in the family lot where are buried two daughters, who died many years ago. The decedent, whose maiden name was Rose E. Cunningham, …..Henry and Elizabeth Cunningham, and was born Sept. 2, 1860, at Francisville, Ind. She died at the age of 55 years, 11 months and 25 days.

The decedent is survived y her husband, John Knox, by six sons, Walter H., Dr. T.C., J. Howard, Floyd F., and Fred S. Knox, all of Marcus, and R. R> Knox of Sioux City; her mother, 80 years of age, who is an invalid having had a stroke of apoplexy last March; by six brothers and four sisters and six grandchildren.

A patient sufferer from an incurable disease through several years, Mrs. Knox met the final summons with the fortitude and trust that befit the Christian faith. She was a woman of the type of the faithful wife and mother, a neighbor of truly helpful and kindly qualities, and her demise while yet young in years causes a deep sorrow to her family and relatives and many long-time friends.
