Last rites for Mrs. John (Lillian Bell King) Nie, 89, were held at the Presbyterian church, Mechanicsville, May 18, 1989 with the Rev. Jamie Glenn-Burns officiating. Burial was in Rose Hill cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Presbyterian church, PO Box 220, Mechanicsville.

Mrs. Nie died at St. Luke's Living Care Center West, Cedar Rapids, May 15.

The daughter of Benjamin Arthur and Josie Mable Sanders King, she was born on the family farm near Vinton, June 10, 1899. She graduated from Vinton high school in 1918 and was married to John Herman Nie June 5, 1919. He died Oct. 15, 1964.

The couple moved to Mechanicsville from Vinton in 1936. She taught rural school in Polk township, Benton county, for 2 years.

She was a member of the Presbyterian church, the United Presbyterian Women, the Garden club, the Federated Woman's club, the Evangeline chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star, the Iowa Poetry Day and the Iowa Chaparral Poetry organization. She had many books of poetry published.

She is survived by a daughter, Nancy Ann Bulingerie, Austin, Texas; 2 brothers, Harold King, Vinton and Morris King, Mount Auburn; 3 half-sisters, Sarah Kollman, Rockford; Bernice Durow, Center Point and Betty Paul, Sacramento, Calif.; a half-brother, Herbert King, Cedar Rapids and 3 grandchildren.
