Funeral services were held at the Methodist church Tuesday afternoon, May 25th, 1954, for Jay W. Miller, with Rev. V. M. Coburn in charge. Interment was in the Faulkton, South Dakota, cemetery.

Jay Walker Miller, the eldest son of Albert and Louisa Miller, was born August 22, 1882, near Millersburg, Holms County, Ohio. He died after a long illness, at the Faulkton hospital May 22, 1954 at the age of 71 years, 9 months and 1 day. he was preceded in death by his parents; one sister Dora; and an infant daughter.

At a very early age he moved with his parents and three sisters to a new farm home in Cedar County near Clarence, Iowa. Here he attended school and grew to young manhood. In his youth he was a member of the Presbyterian church in Clarence, Iowa. Later in life he was affiliated with the Methodist Church and remained a member of this church until the time of his death. When he was a young man he moved to Montana and homesteaded near Lewistown. Later he moved to New Mexico where he resided with his brother, James, on a ranch near Albuquerque. In 1910 he was united in marriage to Viola Bouton of Stanwood, Iowa. They came to South Dakota to establish their home on a farm near Crandon, south east of Redfield in Spink County.

In 1916 they moved to Faulk County living most of the time on a farm south of Seneca.
In 1949, retiring from active farming, he and Mrs. Miller moved to Faulkton where he made his home until his death.

He is survived by his wife, two daughters, Louise, who is Mrs. Hugh LaBay of Brentford; and Doris Miller of Honolulu, Hawaii; two grand children, Joan and James Moulds, two sisters, Mrs. Emma Britcher of Canada, Mrs. Lucie Bixler of Clarence, Iowa, and four brothers, Guy of Butte, Montana; James of Long Beach, Calif.; John of Amana, Iowa; and Frank of Clarence, Iowa.

Elroy Chrisensen sang "The Lord's Prayer", Mrs. Eric Nystrom and Mr. Christensen sang "Beyond the Sunset", and Mrs. Richard Hammond was at the organ.

Active pallbearers were Leon Weber, Cecil Traver, Lloyd Hall, Ralph Ellenbecker, Gordon Ellenbecker, and Stanely Roseland. Honorary pallbearers were Wm. Roseland, Wm. Klein, Clyde Parrett, John Toomey, Peter Christensen and Mike Bauhs.

Relatives and friends from other places attended the funeral services which included Mr. and Mrs. Frank Miller and Mrs. Lucie Bixler from Clarence.
