Funeral services for Dennis Avey, 39, Durant, were held June 14 at St. Paul's Episcopal church in Durant, with the Rev. Richard Simpson officiating. Pallbearers were Dennis Paustian, Dennis Juchter, George Boldt, James Jepsen, Robert Miller and Robert Loter. Honorary pallbearers were Robert Hesse and Sam Brown. Burial was in the Inland cemetery, Bennett.
Mr. Avey died June 12 at Mercy hospital in Davenport.
The son of Earl and Alice Beert Avey, he was born April 7, 1947 in Davenport. He married Joyce Peckenschneider in 1969 in Davenport and he was an electrician for 20 years at the Davenport Alcoa Works.
Mr. Avey was a U.S. Army veteran, a member of St. Paul's Episcopal church, the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local 1379 and Durant American Legion, a former Cub Scout leader in Durant, a member of the board of directors of Durant Boy Scouts and he served on the Durant Ambulance Service.
He is survived by his wife, a daughter, Nicole and a son, Scott, both at home; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Avey, Calamus and 2 brothers, Keith, Davenport and Brian, Plano, Texas.
He was preceded in death by a son.
