Funeral services for Merle M. Highly, 85, were held at the Sheets and Son funeral home May 27 with the Rev. Jerrold Swinton officiating. Burial was in the Tipton Masonic cemetery. Pallbearers were Gerald and Gary Driscoll, Damon and Chad Highly, Ronnie Spear and Cecil Mathias. Leah Rae Highly was organist. Masonic services were held May 26.
Mr. Highly died at the home of his son, Jim, Cedar Rapids, May 22.
The son of John F. and Jessie Ocheltree Highly, he was born near Tipton Dec. 1, 1900. He attended the rural Cedar county schools. He was married to Mary Elizabeth Clover Feb. 18, 1931.
A retired farmer, he was a member of Golden Rule Lodge #24, AF&AM, Rochester. A former Tipton and Iowa City resident, he had made his home with his sons in Iowa City and Cedar Rapids, living in Cedar Rapids for 7 years.
He is survived by his sons, Jim, Cedar Rapids and Steve, Iowa City and 7 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife and 2 sisters.
