9. William Engler (John1) (RIN-316) was born in Newport Township, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania 27 January 1811.

He married Elizabeth Boone 26 December 1833. Elizabeth was born 15 November 1813 in Columbia County, Pennsylvania. She was the daughter of Samuel Boone and Mary Webb. Elizabeth died 12 August 1899.

William died after 1880 in Massillon, Cedar County, Iowa.

According to a biography from the Directory of Cedar County, Iowa, 1878, William Engler and his family migrated from Luzerne County, Pennsylvania to Massillon Township, Cedar County, Iowa in the spring of 1856, where he located on a farm of 175 acres near his sister Eve Williams.

William and Elizabeth Engler were living in Providence Township, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania (now part of the City of Scranton, Lackawanna County) at the time of the 1840 Census. The family then consisted of 1 male 30-40, 1 male 5-10, 2 males under 5, and 1 female 20-30. On 2 January 1855 William and Elizabeth Engler sold property in Hyde Park Borough, Luzerne County (now Lackawanna County) to John Teedrick of Clinton Township, Wyoming County, Pennsylvania, for the sum of $3,050. The property consisted of 2/3 acres in Hyde Park Borough.

On 6 February 1857 William Engler and his wife sold to his brother Mathias "All the land of Wm Engler and Mary Ann Wise the wife of Charles Wise and Philip Engler, the heirship of John Engler' for the sum of $520. [Luzerne County Deed Book 72, page 386.]
