Lester Onken, 42, well-known farmer, died at 8:30 Saturday night at St. Mary's hospital in Rochester, Minn. Following an illness of four and one-half months, he underwent an operation for brain tumor at Rochester April 13. His death occurred the next day.
His wife and children, his brother, Elmer Onken, and a brother-in-law, Wilbert Albers were there when he passed away.
The body was returned here early Sunday morning in the Huffman funeral coach and is being taken this afternoon from the funeral home to the family residence, to rest until the time of the rites.
Services are to be held Wednesday afternoon, brief rites at the family home six miles north and one-half mile east of Carroll to be followed by final services at the Lidderdale Lutheran church, with the pastor, the Rev. R. Herrmann, officiating. Burial will be in the Carroll cemetery.
Mr. Onken, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. August Onken, was born May 6, 1901, on the old homestead north and east of Carroll which had also been his home for the last 14 years. After attending Granville school in Sheridan township, he had taken up farming.
He was married to Miss Laura Alberts, Jan. 14, 1925, at Lidderdale. They lived on a farm east of Lidderdale for six years before locating on the old home place.
Mr. Onken is survived by his wife and four children: Robert, 14; Donald, 13; Margery, 11, and Leland, 5; two brothers, Will and Elmer Onken and one sister, Mrs. Bessie Schroeder, all of Carroll.
His mother passed away last May and his father, eight years ago. He was also preceded in death by an infant brother.
Mr. Onken was a member of the Lidderdale Lutheran church.
