I translated the following biography from Der Carroll Demokrat, a German-language newspaper published in Carroll, Iowa, between about 1874 and 1920. It was originally published in a special 25th Anniversary Edition of the paper on Friday, 20 September 1899. Words in quotations are original. Any information in brackets or notes at the end are my own explanations. It reads as follows:

Jürgens Warning

Mr. Warning was born on 28 June 1838 in Zernien, in Mecklenburg-Schwerin. He attended school in his home village and was confirmed in the local parish church. He then took up farming and worked on various farms until his 28th year. He then carried out his long-held plan to immigrate to the free states of North America. Arriving here, he made his way to Will County, Illinois, where he again worked at farming. On 22 December 1866 he married an honest and virtuous young woman with whom he had immigrated from Germany to America. The young wife, whose name was Sophia Müller, was born on 23 March 1838 in Zellmien, Mecklenburg-Schwerin. He then rented a farm in Will County, Illinois, and so worked at farming on his own until 1881. He then moved to an 80-acre farm in Grant Township, Carroll County, Iowa, which he had purchased a year earlier. He built a fine residence and good stables there, and later he increased his real estate, so that the farm is now 160 acres in size. In 1897 Mr. Warning and his respected wife moved to Glidden, Carroll County, where he purchased a fine home in order to enjoy the fruits of his hard and successful work. Mr. Warning and his wife are honest German-Americans who enjoy the respect of all their acquaintances. Two boys, named George and Fritz, were born to this worthy couple, of whom George is already married and works the parental farm.
