Paul K. McCormick, 85, of Independence, IA, formally of Waterloo, IA, died on Monday, August 19, 2024, at his home in Independence, IA.

Paul was born on September 6, 1938, in Waterloo, IA, the son of George W. and Eva G. (Goodrich) McCormick. He attended the Waterloo Community Schools and Waterloo West High School. Following his education, he joined the United States Marine Corps and served until his honorable discharge in 1960. He returned to Waterloo and started working at John Deere, where he worked for over thirty years in the foundry and at the Waterloo Works plant. He retired in 1990 and later made his home in Independence, IA.

Paul enjoyed spending time with his dogs and on the water. A lot of that time he was fishing or waterskiing. In 1965, Paul met Bonita A. Sweeley while out on the water. They were married in 1966 and made their home together in Waterloo. Together they raised three children. Paul and Bonita later divorced.

He is survived by his son, Dr. Rick (Alicia) McCormick, Independence, IA, his step-children, Rhonda (Fred) Riggenbach, and Randy (Vera) Magee, both of Waterloo, IA, four grandchildren, Madisen, Ethan, Mallory, and Joseph McCormick, a sister Peggy Stephens, Lake Mills, IA, half-siblings, John (Patti) McCormick, Thousand Oaks, CA, Franck (Ginny) McCormick, Bonners Ferry, ID, and JoAnne (Henry “Hank”) McElderry, Hardy, AR, and many nieces and nephews.

Paul is preceded in death by his father, George McCormick, his mother and step-father, Eva and Alan Freeman, a stepbrother Bruce Freeman, and his very special nephew William C. Brooks Jr.
