1887-1911SUMNER (Special) - August Weitenhagen, 93, Sumner, died at the Sumner memorial hospital on February 1st. Funeral services were held on Wednesday, February 4th at 2:00 p.m. in St John's American Lutheran Church with Reverend John Sorensen officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. The Milnes Funeral Home, Sumner, was in charge of the arrangements.
He was born in rural Sumner, Chicksaw County on November 24th 1887, the son of Carl and Frederica Shield Whitenhagen and attended rural Fredericksburg School. On March 26th, 1913 he was married to Helen knoll. They were engaged in farming until retiring in 1945 when they moved to Sumner. Mr. Wheatenhagen was a resident of Hillcrest Home, Sumner.
Survivors include his wife, Helen; two sons, Harley Weitenhagen of Sumner and Clarence Weitenhagen of West Union;three daughters, Mrs. Charles Alice Rose of St Petersburg, Florida; Mrs Arlene Lauer of West Union and Mrs. Hubert (Margaret) Ellison of Fredericksburg; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Mrs. Anna Hehmke of Sumner and Mrs. Emma blockhus of West Union. He was preceded in death by his parents and five brothers.
