1969-1981Rachelle Wegner, 11, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Doyle Wegner of rural Sumner, died Monday in a Nashville, TN hospital as a result of injuries suffered in a traffic accident Aug. 18 near that city.
Rachelle was a passenger in a semi-truck being driven by her uncle, Rande Wegner, 22, a Fairbank native, who had been farming near Altoona, AL and was bringing a load of livestock to Iowa when the accident occurred.
According to Tennessee authorities, the truck went out of control about 6:30 p.m. and ran off the highway onto a median strip. Another driver asleep in the cab was not injured.
Wegner died in the accident and his funeral services were held Saturday at Fairbank.
Funeral services for Rachelle will be held today (Thursday) at 2 p.m. at St. John American Lutheran Church in Sumner with the pastors, Rev. John Sorenson and Rev. Norman Stubbendick, officiating.
Burial is to be in Union Mound Municipal Cemetery. Milnes Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.
Rachelle Christine, daughter of Doyle and Linda (Harnisch) Wegner, was born Aug. 29, 1969, at Tacoma, Wash., where her father was stationed in the Air Force. She was baptized in the hospital shortly after her birth.
She would have been entering the sixth grade in the Sumner Community Schools today.
Survivors include her parents; her grandparents, Robert and Joyce Harnisch of Sumner and Ralph and Bernice Wegner of Fairbank; three great-grandmothers, Mrs. Ida Wegner and Mrs. Ella Reay of Sumner and Mrs. Emma Quass of Oelwein. ~ Find a Grave.
