Boone Photo Studios

NETTIE MYRTLE SMITH GRANDMOTHER AND JOHN KIRKWOOD GRANDFATHER

I am looking for information on a couple of photo studios that would have been in Boone approximately 1910-1920. I found a listing for my grandmother in the 1911 city directory and it says she was a printer for Hughes Studio. I also found an ad for the studio in the directory. We knew she had worked for a photographer but didn't know the name of the studio.
The other is Cottage Studio. My grandfather and his brother are in a group photo that was taken by Cottage Studio. My grandfather and his brother were miners, worked with the miners union, and they also were involved with first aid competitions held throughout the state to teach miners how to help each other when injured. I am wondering if this is the group they competed with. I thought it might help to find when that studio was in Boone. Do you know where I could find out more about early photo studios? Thanks for any help.
