Army Garrison at Boone County

I am researching my husband's family and have found his GGG-Grandfather, Joel Tibbetts, in 1850 Census for Boone County, Iowa. It states he is 22 years old, born in NH and is a Soldier in an Army Garrison attached to Boone County.

Does anyone know the name of the Garrison and where exactly it was located in Boone County? I would really like to know more about what this young man from NH was doing in Iowa in 1850.
