Coal Valley
This town was laid out by Amos Elliott, September 1867. It was located on the west side of Section 4, east side of Section 2, township 84, range 27. This was intended for a mining town and when the coal trade of this section was in a more flourishing condition than that of today.
This town was located just west of the ski hill between Ogden and Boone it sat along the hill side. On the way to Moingona is the Oakwood cemetery if you go north of the cemetery and down the hill there are still some foundations to homes along the hill side. On the hill going to Moingona across from the ski hill known as ski valley hill, there is a road that is blocked off. If you follow this old road it will take you back to the location of the old town also. I have found 4 foundations back in there. There is also some old mining deposits back in there from the coal mining days. From what I have found in history records, there was a store, black smith shop and bar there, but nothing else, the closest church and school was in Moingona.
