Nellie was born December 6, 1923 at North English, the daughter of Lawrence and Ida (Neal) Van Dee. She attended country school west of North English.
On March 8, 1943, Nellie married Milo Cobb at Armah Catholic Church near North English. She and Milo farmed on the White Pigeon Road west of North English until 1960 when the family moved to Vinton. Nellie had a solid work ethic and prided herself in being a “strong farm woman”. She lived through the Depression and recycled before it had a name: (reusing Ziploc bags, wax paper, aluminum foil). Nellie worked as a sales clerk at Wright Pharmacy in Vinton where she established many lasting friendships.
Nellie was a woman of faith, being an active member in Altar and Rosary as well as attending Mass daily at St. Mary Catholic Church.
In her leisure time, Nellie loved reading, playing cards, crossword puzzles, yearly fishing trips to Canada, being a snowbird in Rockport, TX and the color red and chocolate! Nellie was a member of the Vinton Country Club where she enjoyed golf (starting in her 60’s and even celebrated a hole in one) and bridge. She loved living on #4 green and waving to the golfers. Nellie was a faithful Cubs fan. She and Milo attended many baseball games supporting the Cubs, Vinton HS and Cedar Rapids Kernels. Nellie also found time to be a Red Cross Gray Lady. But most of all, Nellie loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved reading to the grands, playing cards with them and attending their many athletic and music events.
Nellie is survived by her five children: Janet (Dr. Alan) Woodhouse of Vinton, Eldron (Chris) Cobb of Atlanta, GA, Chris Galligan of Cedar Rapids, Theresa (David) Jones of Tampa, FL and Holly (David) Roseberg of Columbia, MO; twelve grandchildren: Anne (Woodhouse) Brissey, Matt Woodhouse, Shea (Woodhouse) McMann, Ryan Cobb, Marci (Cobb) Lea, Kelly (Galligan) Siebels, Kate Galligan, Olivia Jones, Maddie Jones, Shannon (Roseberg) Reiling, Aaron Roseberg, Ashley Roseberg; twenty-four great-grandchildren; sister, Reta Albert of Corpus Christi, TX; sister-in-law, Hazel Cobb of North English; and numerous nieces and nephews.
