EXIRA DEPARTMENT

Again has death come into our
midst, this time to cast the shadow
over the home of our neighbor, Chas.
Jacobson. For several years Mrs.
Jacobson has not been in good health,
and for her sake the family left the
farm, in Audubon township and settled
in Exira where it was thought she
might have better advantages to regain
her health. But as the months went
by she rather grew worse than better.
Sometime this spring Mr. and Mrs.
Jacobson wen to Lincoln, Nebraska,
where she was under treatment, and
for a time she seemed to improve, but
later it was thought best to have her
return to her home. After a short stay
at home she determined to make one
more brave fight for life, and this time
she went to Omaha where she submitted
to an operation on August 3d.
But her strength was so far gone that
all that loving hands and medical
skill could do could not stay the ravages
of disease, and on Monday,
August 8, 1898, her spirit went up to
God who gave it.

Rose Lage was born in Germany on
August 16, 1864, being almost thirty-four
years of age when she passed
away. When about the age of sixteen
she, with her father's family came to
America. December 13, 1883, she was
joined in bonds of matrimony with
Charles Jacobson. This union was
blessed with two sons and two daughters,
one son having preceded the
mother to the spirit world. By her
death a husband has lost a true and
loving companion, three children a
self-sacrificing, tender and affectionate
mother, and the community a true
and worthy woman. Besides these
there remains a father, one sister and
five brothers to mourn the loss of a
daughter and sister. None of her im-
mediate relatives could be present but
the father.who arrived Tuesday morning.
The funeral services were held
on Tuesday, at the home, Rev. H. L.
Wissler, of the Congregational church
officiating, and the body was laid to
rest in the Schwennecker Cemetery, in
Audubon township. Only a small
portion of those present were able to
get into the house. The members of
the Maccabee Lodge, of which Mr.
Jacobson is a member, attended in a
body to pay the last respects to their
brother's companion. Many hearts are
saddened by this death, yet they sorrow
not as those who have no hope.
For Mrs. Jacobson, when yet young in
years, heard the Masters call and
obeyed His command, and having
identified herself with His church gave
her testimony to the world of her acceptance
of Christ. May He, who
knows all hearts, comfort those who
mourn.
