Local News
The following letter handed to us
by Mrs. Anna McAninch is self explanatory:

SIDNEY, IOWA, May 29,1904.
DEAR ANNA--Yes, I am going to
do it. That is just what I am going
to do, go to Europe. I will leave
here one week from tomorrow, the
sixth, and sail the eleventh. I will
stop at Chicago and Niagara Falls.
I have joined an excursion. Miss
Lillian Eaton will accompany me.
On June 20th I will call at Gibralter
and see for myself is Prudential is
painted on it, as it is pictured in
the magazines. Will land at Naples,
June 23. I will tell you now of
the countries I will visit: Italy,
Switzerland. Germany, Holland,
Belgium, France, England and
Scotland.

I will spend the Fourth of July,
in Italy, at Milan, I will take a little
silk flag with me, but you must fire
my crackers, as it might not be sate
for me to get too hilarious over
there. We will spend five days in
Rome and five days in Paris, You
know I always said if I ever went to
Paris, I would have a Paris gown, if
I had to make it myself. Do you
think I can make it in five days?
Will spend three days in Venice
and for one day, gondolas are provided
for sightseeing. While in
Naples we will visit Pompeii I can't
believe it is time that I am to see all
this. We are to have one whole day
for a sail down the Rhine. Will
visit Heidelberg, Strausberg and
Dresden. I wish I could bring you
a cream pitcher from Dresden. I
might carry it over in my hand.

You remember when we were
studying Italian Art in the Club,
about the Pitti and Uffiya Polacer?
Well, I am to visit them and when
in Florence I will learn to pronounce
them and when I come back
will tell you how. I can't tell you
all the places I will visit and will
only speak of one more. That is
Ayr and Old Alloway Kirk, that
Burns "Tom O'Shanter" has made
immortal.

You know the "Old Curiosity
Shop" that Dickens tells about, has
been torn down, so I can't see that
but am going to walk on the ground
when in London. And when in Paris
I will go down in the Latin Quarters
and see if Trilby's toe is on the
wall of little Billy's room.

Now if there is any place you
would like to have me visit for you
write me at once, so I will get it before
I leave. Do let me hear from
you. It will be so long before I
can hear from Exira again. I will
not be back before the first of September.
I sail on the Princess Irene
North German Lloyd line.
