Joseph Wacher, whose death occurred at his home in Fairview township Dec. 9, 1921, was born in Aurora, Ind., Oct. 22, 1854, being at the time of his death 67 years, 1 month and 17 days of age.

Mr. Wachter may well be classed as one of this county's sturdy pioneers, having lived here for nearly half a century.

In 1858 [sic] he was united in marriage to Miss Elizabeth Gast, who has always been a most devoted wife and helpmeet, and whose patient and untiring care of her loved one during his three years illness never waned, and who, with six daughters and two sons will always mourn the loss of a loving husband and father.

The children are: Mrs. Floyd Fleishman of Montana; Mrs. N.J. Atall of Waukon Junction; Mrs. E.A. Bastel and Mrs. Geo. Jones, of Cherry Mound; Emma, of Nora Springs; and Gertrude, Walter and Joseph at home.

Seven grandchildren and the following brothers and sister survive: Mrs. S.E. Angell Clear Lake, Wis.; Mrs. Fred North [sic - Worth], Mrs. Levi Boardman, Mrs. Mike McCormack [sic - McCormick], James and Antone of this place, and Frank of Harpers Ferry.

The funeral, which was held at the Cherry Mound church, was very largely attended and after Requiem High Mass celebrated by Rev. Father Neenan, who also gave a touching funeral sermon, the remains were laid to rest in the Wachter lot in St. Pius cemetery. The pall bearers were James, Charles and Neil McCormack, Albert and Ed Wacher and J.P. Larkin.

May his soul rest in peace.
