The familiar saying, "In the midst of life we are in death," was most forcibly thrust upon us last Wednesday shortly after noon when news was spread around that Antone Walker had died. The day previous, he was in his usual good health, and, as he busied himself around the homestead where he was invariably found, he was unusually happy and it was while finishing up the evening chores that he complained of a pain in his head, caused by a clot of blood on the brain. He soon sank into unconsciousness and remained so until his death the following day.

Antone Walker was born in Crawford county, Wis., April 28, 1857, and died Sept. 16, 1925, being at the time of his death 68 years, 4 months and 18 days of age.

At the age of 15 years he moved to Allamakee county and settled in Fairview township. On June 8, 1881 he was united in marriage to Katie Nicholson, the ceremony being performed at Paint Rock by Rev. Fr. McNamara.

To this union were born, Mary, dying in infancy; Leo in 1902 and Fred in 1920. Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons, Albert of Prairie du Chien, and Ed at home, and one daughter, Mrs. J.P. Larkin of Cherry Mound; also two sisters, Mrs. M.J. McCormick of Cherry Mound and Mrs. S.E. Angell of Clear Lake, Wis.; two brothers, Frank of Harpers Ferry and Jim of Cherry Mound; ten grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

For one who has lived an honest, upright, quiet life in a community for over fifty years, always reticent and happy and much loved by his neighbors no further eulogy is needed. Suffice to say his memory will long be cherished by his devoted family and friends. Always a devout Catholic, he was strengthened in his last illness by the Sacrament of Extreme Uncition administered by his pastor, Rev. D.J. Neenan.

The funeral was held at St. Pius' Church Friday morning, Requiem mass being celebrated by Rev. Father Neenan, who was assisted in the prayers at the graveside by Rev. Fr. Killacky, of Prairie du Chien. The pall bearers were James, Charles and Neil McCormick, Joseph and Walter Walker and Raymond Cahalan, nephews of the deceased. Interment was made in the family lot nearby.

May he rest in peace.
