NOVEMBER 27, 1851 ---- JULY 28, 1931
PIONEER OF COMPETINE IS CALLED
John Garber, 79 years old, pioneer farmer of Competine township died at 12:50 p.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph hospital in Ottumwa. He had suffered a fall about a week ago, fracturing one hip. He is survived by his wife, Edith, and the following children: Mrs. Clara Bunting of Bloomfield, Mrs. Jennie Reno of Bloomfield, Roy Garber of Lamor, Harley Garber of Packwood. Guy Garber of Parsons, Sherman Garber of Hedrick, route 1 and Mrs. Esther Vannoy of Hedrick. There are twenty-two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He is survived by a brother, Chris, of Milton, Ind., and a sister, Mrs. Anna Snyder, of Kalona. Funeral services will be held at the Farson Methodist church Thursday at 2 p.m. and the burial will take place in the family lot in the Competine cemetery.
