Clara Schirm Dies At Adair

ADAIR - Mrs. Clara Schirm, 87, longtime Adair resident and former teacher, died Wednesday afternoon at the Adair Community Health Center.

She taught rural schools in the Adair area for a number of years and was a substitute teacher in the Adair School after moving to Adair in 1957.

The daughter of Peter and Anna Hintz Winkelman, she was born in Audubon County Nov. 24, 1893, and attended rural schools. She was married to J. George Schirm in Atlantic July 22, 1914. They lived in Adair for a time and later farmed in Adair and Guthrie counties until retiring and moving to Adair in 1957. Mrs. Schirm was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church and the Civic League.

Surviving are a son, Dale Schirm of Mercer, Mo.; a daughter, Mrs. Ila Maloy of Borden, Texas; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband; two grandsons, Monty D. Maloy and Richard Leroy Schirm in infancy; her parents; four brothers, Claus, Earnest, Henry and William Winkelman; six sisters, Minnie Marsh, Anna Stonebreaker, Kate and Mary Bireline, Emma Schwenneker and Mildred Schirm.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Mike Dagel officiating. Burial will be in the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery.

The body will lie in state at the Mullen Funeral Home and friends may call after 10 a.m. Friday. A visitation will be held from 7-9 p.m. Friday.
