April 24 - Added vintage photos of the Chris and Elsie Marie Petersen family and farm home and Children of Chris and Elsie Marie Petersen.

April 8, 2012 - Added a link to the 1940 Federal Census for Audubon County. The 1940 census has not been indexed yet, so you will not be able to search on your ancestor's name, but you can page through the images. The above link will display a list of the ED descriptions, but just click "Maps" or "Census Schedules" to view those instead.

March 2012

March 27 - Added 2 more biographies (Van Gorder, Zierke) from the 1915 History of Audubon County and 1886-1915 Audubon High School Graduates.

March 26 - Added a transcription of the biographical index from the 1915 History of Audubon County, along with 3 biographies (Agnew, Feltner and Hansen).

March 23 - Added a Viola Township Cemetery page with directions and photos.

March 21 - Viola Township Cemetery is now fully loaded to Iowagravestones, and is believed to be complete, but we are double-checking for errors/missed photos. Unfortunately there were some stacks of broken stones in the maintenance shed. The topmost of these were photographed, but they were too heavy to lift and photograph all the stacks. Many of these seemed to be individual grave markers inscribed only with initials however, rather than full inscriptions. Thanks again to Donna Thomas for all her time and effort recording and photographing Viola Township Cemetery!

March 11 - Added transcriptions of an additional 18 Audubon County biographies from the Iowa Press Association's Who's Who in Iowa (1940). We are now loading photos for Viola Township and Douglas Township to the Iowagravestones Photo Project (GPP). We believe Lincoln Township is complete, but are double-checking for errors/missed photos in both Lincoln Twp. and Cameron. We will resume loading Maple Grove after Viola Twp. and Douglas Twp. are complete. Volunteers for the Danish Immigrant Museum have finished loading photos for Bethany Lutheran and are currently reviewing for errors/missed photos.

February 2012

February 20 - Added transcription a short history of Audubon County and 14 Audubon County biographies from the Iowa Press Association's Who's Who in Iowa (1940).

January 2012

January 27 - The gravestone photos for Cameron Cemetery are now fully loaded to Iowagravestones. We are in the process of double-checking the records for transcription errors, and are still attempting to read a few very worn stones that have initially been loaded as UNKNOWN. A huge thank you again to Donna Thomas for this wonderful contribution! Donna has also walked and photographed all stones in Maple Grove Cemetery, and we have begun loading those photos to Iowagravestones also. Maple Grove is a very large cemetery with well over 5,000 graves, so loading all the Maple Grove photos will take considerable time. A few of the smaller cemeteries (Douglas Twp., Lincoln Twp., Viola, etc.) may be loaded concurrently with Maple Grove. Keep checking back!

January 20 - Added remaining transcriptions from the 1875 Andreas Atlas (Audubon County Surface Features, Historical, The Press, County Officers, Towns).

January 17 - Added 2 additional transcriptions from the 1875 Andreas Atlas (Patrons, Misc./Too Lates) and reformatted 1875 Business Directory and Audubon County map pages.

January 16 - Added an index to Audubon Country materials contained in the 1875 Andreas Atlas, and 8 engraved views (Ballard, Stotts, Van Gorder, Bush, Houston House, Town of Exira, Plan of Oakfield, and Plan of Exira) from the atlas.

January 4 - Added a link to the biography of Dale Eldon Christensen in the IAGenWeb Iowa History Special Project. Dale was a Congressional Medal of Honor recipient from Audubon County who served in the Pacific during World War II. The Veteran of Foreign Wars Post in Audubon is named after Dale. (3/2012 NOTE: Biography no longer available on the History Project.)
