Note: the 1886 Warner-Foote plat shows the Calhoun school No. 1 in Section 32

Klara Keffeler's report card for the 7th grade at the Churchtown Calhoun No. 3 school in 1905. The Keffeler's immigrated from Luxembourg and farmed in Church just across from the Calhoun Dairy. Many are buried at the Catholic cemetery outside Lansing.

The monthly report was for October 17, 1904 to March 10, 1905 and March 27, 1905 to June 16, 1905. The teacher was Lora Aird.

Lansing No.3 School Notes

Bernice E. Herman, Teacher

January 13 ends our half-year of school. We have much illness, and there are only five children who were neither tardy nor absent. They are: Richard Bergeson, Morris Schellhammer, Dorothy Saewert and Ruth and Henry Rissman.

Pupils receiving the highest grades for this month are: Lois Bulman, Bernice Bauman and John Lenz.

We have welcomed a new pupil to our school. She is Lois Bulman from Center Township. Her little brother will also start school again as soon as he has recovered from illness. Our enrollment will then be 28.

Our Christmas program was given December 23, on Friday afternoon. It was well sponsored by the parents and other friends of the community. After the program, Santa arrived and delivered the many beautiful gifts and candy. We had a two weeks' vacation which was enjoyed by all of us.

During vacation, our school board installed new electric lights through out the school. We certainly can call ourselves lucky because there are not very many rural schools that can have electric lights.

Lansing No.3 School Notes

Bernice E. Herman, Teacher

School started Sept. 10 with an enrollment of 22. Edna Bechtel and Joe Becker are the two new pupils on our roll.

October 19 ended our sixth week of school. Pupils neither absent nor tardy are: Richard Bergeson, Bernice Bauman, Irene Hirth, Edna Bechtel, Mary Joan and Dorothy Mae Uren, Evelyn Troendle and Ruth Stirn.

Pupils receiving the highest grades in the six weeks tests are: Richard Bergeson, John Lenz, Henry and Ruth Rissman, Harold Bechtel, Ursula and Theresa Becker, Ernie Schellhammer, Dorothy Mae and Mary Joan Uren and Ruth Stirn.

We are having a contest in third grade reading. The one who missed the least words gets his name on the honor roll. The one who has his name on it the most wins. Ernie Schellhammer won the contest. He was given a book entitled "The Kitten Who Lost Her Purr" as a prize.

We added a new bat, kittenball, rope, the world globe and flag to our equipment. Mr. Bauman put up the new rope and flag.

Mr. Rissman was up one afternoon and cleaned the pipe of the furnace, nailed locks on the doors and fixed the doors so they would shut more easily. He also filled sod in certain places in the lawn.

We extend our thanks to Mr. Bauman and Mr. Rissman because we appreciate their work and help very much.
