School Notes - Franklin No. 11
~Postville Herald, Thursday, November
5, 1936; page 7
School opened September seventh with eleven children
enrolled. Avis Decker was our only beginner.
Our school room was treated to a fresh coat of paint
during vacation which makes it an ideal place to work.
Alice Palmer and Phyllis Ewing were our only visitors. We
hope we may have more soon.
We were happy to receive a prize in the Corn Day parade.
We had an enforced vacation of ten days because of
scarlet fever. No new cases have developed and we
earnestly hope none will.
Friday afternoon, October 30, we had a party with games
and a surprise from Miss Beighle.
Several of our young people are practicing for a program.
We hope to have it ready shortly before Thanksgiving.
Those earning perfect attendance slips are: Leonard
Roffman, Leo Thornton, Avis Decker, Helen Decker, Eileen
Livengood, Deloris Ewing, Edna McCracken and John Ewing.
Mirian Bieghle, teacher

[note: the teacher's surname was also spelled Beighle in
the article; unknown which is correct]
