Women Vets Take Advantage of Training

Several former Des Moines service women are taking "on the job" training at government expense under the G.I. Bill of rights. Among them is Mary Ann Arnold, 23, of 5800 S. Waterbury road, shown operating a Vari-Typer, specially equipped typesetting machine at Direct Advertising, 1020 Locust st. As a sergeant in the marines at Cherry Point, N.C., Miss Arnold had used a similar machine. During her year of G.I. training at Direct Advertisting, she will improve her skills on the Vari-Typer, make layouts, type and do other advertising stints. Graduated from Christina college at Columbia, Mo., just before going into service, Miss Arnold said she found her specialty in the marines corps. "Being in a printing office is the best fun of all", she commented. Former service personnel are entitled to a maximum of fours years of training, depending upon length of service. Miss Arnold, who served two years, could have two years of "on-the-job" training and a third year of "advanced" training.
