Gayle I. Westrum, 75, Boone, died at his home Monday, Dec. 4, 2000. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Boone with Rev. Lindsay Watkins officiating. Burial with presentation of the flag by the Boone Veterans Council, will be in the Mineral Ridge Cemetery north of Boone. Friends may call at the Stark-Welin Funeral Home in Boone Wednesday from 6-9 p.m. and Thursday at the church after 8:30 a.m. until the service time. Memorials may be given to the Lutheran Hour in St. Louis, Mo. or Bethesda Lutheran Home in Watertown, Wis.
Gayle Irwin Westrum, son of Martin and Mabel Angstrom Westrum, was born Dec. 11, 1924, in Stratford. He attended rural schools in Hamilton County and graduated from Stratford High School in 1942. He married Betty Grabau at Boone on Sept. 1, 1946. He farmed in the Boone area all of his life and was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Navy from 1944 to 1946.
He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Boone and served on the Stratford elevator board.
Survivors are his wife, Betty, Boone, two sons and daughters-in-law, Kevin and Marilyn Westrum of Boone, Byron and Eileen Westrum of Boone, a daughter and son-in-law, Barb and Dave McKenzie of Boone; five grandchildren; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Gerald Westrum of Stratford and Lyle and Alice Westrum of Boone; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Marietta and Ted Grabau, Boone, Marilyn and Dick Palmer of Vancouver, Wash., a sister-in-law, Arlys Westrum, Stratford, and two aunts, Cleo Westrum, Boone and Alberta Ewing, Stanhope, nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Eugene “Buss” Westrum, and a sister-in-law, Dorothy Westrum.
