Arthur Jacob Van Arkel was born June 20, 1915 to N. Cornelius and Bessie S. Bolsem Van Arkel. He died Apr. 4, 1944 and is buried in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA.
Sgt. Van Arkel served in World War II with the U.S. Army Air Corps 719th Bomber Squadron, 449th Bomb Group and was MIA/KIA over Rumania. He was a crew member on B-24H #41-29248 on a bombing mission over Bucharest, Rumania when they were attacked by German fighters and shot down and crashed near the Danube River. He was awarded a Purple Heart.
