David John Thelen was born Sept. 23, 1916 to John Marian and Eunice Gertrude Davies Thelen. He died July 21, 1944 and is buried in Normandy American Cemetery and Memorial, Colleville-sur-Mer, Normandy, France and has a cenotaph in Barnes Township Cemetery, Linn Grove, IA.
Lt. Thelen served with the U.S. Army 654th Tank Destroyer Battalion in World War II and was KIA in St. Lo, France. He was awarded the Purple Heart.
