Harold Robert Sandeen, Jr. was born June 10, 1921 to Harold R. (Sr.) and Mabel L. Sandeen. He died Sept. 7, 1944 and is memorialized at the Walls of the Missing, Manila American Cemetery, Taguig City, Philippines.
Pvt. Sandeen served in the Philippine Islands at the fall of Bataan and was taken to ‘starvation camp’ at Davao, Mindanao and Lost at Sea, Sept. 7, 1944 in the sinking of a vessel transporting POWs. He has a cenotaph in Jefferson Cemetery, Jefferson, IA.
Pvt. Sandeen served with the U.S. Army Air Corps Headquarters Squadron, 5th Air Base Group and was MIA/KIA and was awarded the Purple Heart.
