DR. SCHRADER ENTERS ARMY
Dr. Merlin A. Schrader, prominent Webster City surgeon and physician, has accepted a commission as first lieutenant in the army medical corps and will report for duty next Monday at Topeka, Kans.
Following indoctrination at Topeka, Lieutenant Schrader will go to Carlisle Barracks, Pa., for specialized medical training.
Came Here in May
In May of this year, Dr. Schrader opened his office in Webster City and helped in a major way to alleviate the critical shortage of physicians in this city.
In this short period, Dr Schrader built up a remarkably large practice in Webster City and community, and his leaving for service will create a hard to fill vacancy in the corps of Webster City doctors.
While his many friends and acquaintances here regret the loss to the community of his services, they all are happy at his opportunity to give his services to his country.
Was in Alabama
Before locating in Webster City Lieutenant Schrader was a member of the Hubbard hospital staff at Montgomery, Ala. He is a graduate of the State University of Iowa’s college of medicine.
The lieutenant’s wife and baby daughter plan to go to Atlanta, Ga., where they will make their home for the duration. After the war, Lieutenant Schrader plans to return to practice in Webster City.

Merlin A. Schrader was born in 1914 to August F. and Martha Olson Schrader. He died July 2, 1956 and is buried in the West Lutheran (AKA West Rake) Cemetery, Rake, IA.
