Eugene Marion Owens was born July 9, 1921 to Thomas William and Gladys Lenora Shoemaker Owens. He died Aug. 7, 1943 and is buried in the Allied Military Cemetery in the area in which he was serving (South Pacific). He was later buried in the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific, Honolulu, Hawaii.
Pvt. Owens served in World War II with the U.S. Army 3437th Ordnance. He died as the result of accidental drowning when the Army truck, which he was driving, struck a concrete post on a bridge and fell into the stream below. He was pronounced dead when his body was recovered a short time after the accident occurred.
