Pvt. Eldon G. Nichols

 

Iowan Back On Duty.

WAVERLY, IA.—After being reported missing in action in Africa by the War Department, Pvt. Eldon G. Nichols of Plainfield, Ia., now is officially reported “back on duty,” according to information reaching his parents, Mr. and Mrs. G. J. Nichols of Plainfield.  A letter from him dated Feb. 21, several days after he was reported missing, reached them 10 days ago.

Eldon Glen Nichols was born July 25, 1915 to Jesse Grant and Mabel K. Mishler Nichols. He died Apr. 9, 1943 and is buried in North Africa American Cemetery, Tunis, Tunisia and has a cenotaph in Horton Cemetery, Horton, IA.

Pvt. Nichols served in World War II with the U.S. Army 168th Infantry Regiment, 34th Division and was KIA and awarded the Purple Heart.
