MEN and WOMEN IN SERVICE
Aviation Cadet Richard A. Lechner has completed basic flying training at Gardner field, Cal., and has reported to an advanced flying school for pilot training. He is a son of Mr. and Mrs. W. G. Lechner, 2422 Douglas Street. He is a former Morningside College student and was accepted as an aviation cadet in September 1943, at Santa Ana, Cal.

First Lt. Richard Lechner has returned from England where he completed 32 missions as pilot on a B-17 and is spending a 30-day leave with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. W.G. Lechner, 2422 Douglas Street. Lt Lechner, who holds the air medal with four oak leaf cluster, will report to Santa Ana, California, August 25 for further assignment.

First Lt. Richard A. Lechner, son of Mr. and Mrs. William G. Lechner, 2422 Douglas Street, is assigned to the redistribution station at Santa Ana army air base. A B-17 pilot in the Eighth Air Force with 32 combat missions to his credit, he entered service on February 22, 1943 and went overseas in December 1944. He wears the Air Medal with Four Oak Leaf Clusters and the European Theater ribbon with three battle stars.

Richard Arthur Lechner was born June 7, 1924 to William G. and Bertha Stenger Lechner. He died Mar. 3, 2002 and is buried in Memorial Park Cemetery, Sioux City, IA.
