Byron Jeys, 79, LeMars and a former Webster City resident, died Feb. 23, 1996, at Floyd Valley Hospital in LeMars. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Mauer Johnson Funeral Home in LeMars, with Barbara Larson officiating. Burial will be at the Memorial Cemetery. Military honors will be conducted by the Iowa Army National Guard Co. A 2-133d (M) IN and the Wasmer American Legion Post No. 241 of LeMars. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today at the funeral home with a public Masonic Service at 7 p.m.
Byron Dale Jeys, son of Joseph E. Nathan and Lena Mae Cumpston Jeys, was born June 4, 1916, in Fort Dodge. He was raised and educated in Fort Dodge, graduating from Fort Dodge High School and later attending Fort Dodge Junior College. On Jan. 4, 1937, he married Wanda E. Thompson in Webster City. He worked for Beam Manufacturing in Webster City from 1939 until 1942 as a war materials inspector. He served during World War II in the United States Army in the European Theatre as a communications specialist. After his discharge from the Army, he returned to Webster City and managed Graham Dairy and also re-enlisted with the Iowa Army National Guard. In 1951, the family moved to LeMars where he worked with the Iowa Army National Guard Co. A 2-133d (M) IN as a supply sergeant. While working, he also attended Westmar College. In 1953, he began his 30 year career with Northwest Iowa Power Cooperative (NIPCO) as a work order clerk. He retired in 1964 from the National Guard and in 1981, he retired from NIPCO.
He is survived by his wife, Wanda Jeys, LeMars; daughters and sons-in-law, Lieutenant Colonel Iowa Army National Guard (Ret.) Janeen Claudia Morel, Des Moines, Rosemary Ellen and Larry Radloff, LeMars, U.S.A.F. Master Sergeant Virginia JoAnne and Mark Pulver, Boston, Mass.; son, Byron LeRoy Jeys, Malawi, Africa; eight grandchildren; one great grandson; sisters, Mary Wood, Breckenridge, Eda Lou and Dean Keele, Albany, Wis.; brothers and sisters-in-law, Jack and Jane Jeys, Davenport and Gene and Eve Jeys, Grants, N.M.; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, George, Don and LeRoy Jeys; sisters, Jenny Anderson, Margarette Jeys and Alice Bock; daughter, Geraldine Jeys in 1955; and grandson, George Byron Jeys in 1977.
