Lt. Heggen served in World War II with the U.S. Army Air Corps 410th Bombardment Squadron, 94th Bombardment Group in England was awarded the ETO ribbon with 3 battle stars, the Air Medal with 4 Oak Leaf Clusters and the Distinguished Flying Cross.
