The cost of war runs high!

Word of the victory in Europe today brought a feeling of happiness and relief to thousands of families in the Muscatine area, but for others there were only sad memories.  And for those who have sons, husbands, brothers or other relatives, fighting against the Japs in the second phase of the big world-wide conflagration the period of rejoicing was less pronounced.

Pvt. Harvey Paul Hanson, 21, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harold H. Hanson, 1006 Reed street, killed in action Jan. 7, 1945 in France.

Harvey Paul Hanson was born Aug. 14, 1923 to Harold H. and Marguerite J. Linn Hanson. He died Jan. 7, 1945 and is buried in Greenwood Cemetery, Muscatine, IA.

Pvt. Hanson served in World War II with the U.S. Army 44th Cavalry Reconnaissance Troop and was KIA in France.
