Note: This same serviceman and his photo was published in the Des Moines Register, Sunday, December 19, 1943, which stated that William W. Henderson was killed at Pearl Harbor and he was from Marshalltown, Iowa.

William Walter Henderson was born Oct. 6, 1920 to Walter L. and Iva E. Ayers Henderson. He died Dec. 7, 1941 and is memorialized at the Courts of the Missing, Court 3, Honolulu Memorial, Honolulu, Hawaii and has a cenotaph in Newton Union Cemetery, Newton, IA.

Petty Officer Henderson served in World War II with the U.S. Navy and was a bugler aboard the USS Arizona (BB-39) when that ship was attacked in Pearl Harbor. He was MIA/FOD/KIA and awarded the Purple Heart.

**He was recognized as the first Marshalltown casualty of the war. He had lived in this city a short time before his enlistment. (Marshalltown Times Republican dated Tues. June 30, 1953)
