Ensign Earl Stuart Goodenow

John Arnett Caylor, 2319 Northview Terrace, Sioux City and Earl Stuart Goodenow of Battle Creek, were graduated today from the United States Naval Reserve midshipmen’s school in New York City with the largest group of naval reserve officers ever to be sworn in at one time. They were commissioned ensigns after completing the four-month V-7 training course. Also graduating with the group and receiving his commission as an ensign was John Sebern Kolp of Manson, Iowa.

Earl Stuart Goodenow was born July 20, 1920 to John Calvin and Alice Christina Schmidt Goodenow. He died Jan, 4, 1964 and is buried in Mount Hope Cemetery, Battle Creek, IA.

Earl served with the U.S. Navy in World War II aboard the USS SC-1497, USS YP-90, and USS Telewa (ARF-116).
