Douglas Beck Gertsen was born Feb. 20, 1920 to Jens Mikkelsen and Dagmar Beck Gertsen. He died May 3, 1943 and is buried in Story City Cemetery, Story City, IA.
Sgt. Gertsen served in World War II with the U.S. Army Air Corps, 18th Anti-Submarine Squadron and died when his parachute failed to open when he bailed out of his plane.
