SENEY:
A large crowd of about 200 guests were present at a party in the hall Monday evening, given in honor of the boys from our neighborhood who are in the armed services and home on furlough. The program for the evening commenced with community singing, a short talk by the pastor, after which the boys took their places before the audience and were given a cheerful handclap. Each one was interviewed as to his part of the service by Rev. L. E. Lombard. The remainder of the evening was spent socially. Lunch was served in closing. The honored guests were: Sgt. Donald Berkenpas of South Carolina, Pfc. Willie Olsen of Pennsylvania; Robert Zevenbergen, navy aviation, Corpus Christi, Texas, Norman Berkenpas, Aviation cadet and Eddie Foreman, apprentice seaman of Farragut, Idaho; Cpl. Albert Olsen, AAC of Scottfield, Illinois.

ED FOREMAN IS WOUNDED
Mr. and Mrs. M. J. Foreman have received word that their son, Edward, Fireman 2/c, was wounded aboard the USS Bunker Hill in the southwest Pacific. He received a shrapnel wound in his leg. In a letter which his parents received on Wednesday, however, he was reported much improved, but will have to be in sick bay for some time. Edward joined the Navy last November 18, and has been overseas for several months.
Mr. and Mrs. Foreman also received a letter from their son, John, who is a first class private in the army, stating that he will be sent overseas soon. He is with an anti-aircraft unit in the coast artillery.

Edward Foreman Hit By Shrapnel
Edward Harold Foreman, Fireman 2nd Class, received a shrapnel wound in the calf of the leg on June 24th, according to an airmail letter to his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Mike Foreman, who believe their son was injured in the battle for Saipan. He wrote from a hospital ship. His brother, Pfc. John Foreman, is with an anti-aircraft regiment in the Coast Guard at Santa Monica at present.

In a letter received by Mr. and Mrs. Mike Foreman July 13 their son Edward says that the long shrapnel wound in the back of his leg from the knee down is not healing so rapidly. The injury was received on Saipan Island June 19. However, he walks without crutches and is doing some work. He appreciates the hospital care he receives on the boat. Mr. and Mrs. Mike Foreman received two letters Monday from their son Edward Foreman F 2/c of the South Pacific. The letters were dated July 26. Edward who suffered a shrapnel wound recently is back at work again on an aircraft carrier. His leg is almost healed.

Edward H. Foreman F 2/c (E.M.) arrived home Saturday morning from Seattle, Wash. to spend a 15-day furlough with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. M. J. Foreman. He has been aboard an aircraft carrier in the Pacific for 10 months. Saturday afternoon the following were entertained in the Foreman home complimenting Edward; John Reinders Sr., Mr. and Mrs. Jake Foreman and sons, Merlyn and Leland, Miss Wilmina Pennings, and Mr. and Mrs. George Foreman and family.

Edward H. Foreman E. M. 2/c is home on leave from the So. Pacific. Edward who has been overseas for 10 months and who was wounded at Saipan has completely recovered from his wounds. The Japanese plane responsible for bombings was captured by the Allies, however 2 of the ships crew were killed and 74 were wounded at the time Edward was hurt.

Foreman, John Farritson, Arthur Kleinhesslink, Albert Schuller, John Post, Dick Frericks, Chas. Kleinhesslink, Jake Foreman, Joe Kleinhesslink, Geo. Foreman, Mrs. Arnold Vander Wilt and son, Mrs. Marion Korver and children, Mr. and Mrs. John G. Reinders, Mrs. Martin Rynders, John Reinders Sr., Gerard Reinders, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Van Pelt, Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Van Citters, Mr. and Mrs. John Bloemendaal, Miss Wilmina Pennings, Miss Greta Vander Maaten, Miss Cora Van Citters, Miss Helen Bloemendaal and Ollie Van Citters. There were around 199 guests present.

Escapes Death On Ship
Edward Foreman EM 3/c arrived Sunday from Bremerton, Washington where his shop is undergoing repairs. Edward’s ship, The Bunker Hill, one of the largest U. S. aircraft carriers, was attacked by two Jap suicide planes near Okinawa on May 11. The planes dropped bombs, and crashed down on the ship, destroying 100 carrier planes with their pilots who were ready to take off. Of a crew of 3,500 men, 400 were killed and 1,100 wounded and missing. Among the men killed was Bud Foley of LeMars. The ship managed to get to the states under its own power June 2. Edward was fortunate to escape without even a scratch. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Mike Foreman of Orange City.

ENTERTAIN FOR SONS
Complimenting their sons, Pfc. John Foreman and Edward Foreman EM 3/c, Mr. and Mrs. Mike Foreman had as their guests Tuesday evening Prof. and Mrs. L Berkhof, John Reinders Sr., and Gerald Reinders. Friday noon all the children were home for dinner for them. Present were Mr. and Mrs. Jake Foreman, Merlyn and Leland, Mrs. Bud Aalbers and son Nickey. After dinner guests were Mr. and Mrs. George Foreman and Marjorie, Mr. and Mrs. Pier Wiersma and family, John Reinders Sr., Andrew Vogel and Margaret, Lt. and Mrs. Clifford Bloemendaal, and Cpl. Tenas De Jong. Edward left that afternoon, riding with Lt. and Mrs. Bloemendaal to Topeka, Kansas. From there he took the train to Bremerton, Wash. Lt. and Mrs. Clifford Bloemendaal left for Roswell, New Mexico where he will be stationed.

S 1/c Wilbur Harmelink is now at Tokyo, Japan and is postmaster on the troopship the “Bunker Hill” which was formerly an aircraft carrier. Wilbur and Eddie Foreman are the O. C. men aboard the ship.

Edward Foreman arrived in the states on the “Bunker Hill”. Edward Reinders who recently arrived from Tinian was aboard the same ship coming home. The “Bunker Hill” sailed for the East Coast taking Edward Foreman from where he expects to depart for home.

To be Discharged Soon
EM3/c Edward Foreman is expected home within a couple of weeks from Seattle, Wash. He is receiving his discharge on the point system. Edward has had many thrilling and trying experiences while in service for 2 ½ years aboard the “Bunker Hill” which is now being decommissioned at Seattle. Since October, 1945 he has been to Samar, Hawaii, Saipan and Tinian hauling troops.

FAMILY REUNION
A reunion of the John Reinders Sr. family was enjoyed in the Town Hall Friday evening. The main purpose of the party was to welcome home the nine servicemen of the family, Roy Vander Stoep, Henry Visser, Bud Aalbers of Alton, Edward Foreman, Edward Reinders, Rodney Vellinga, John Foreman, John Vogel and George Vogel. The last four, who were married while in service, were presented with floor lamps. It was also the birthday anniversary of Mr. Reinders Sr.
A short program was given, which included songs, talks and old time pictures thrown on a screen. The two-course luncheon was prepared by Mrs. John Boone, Mrs. William Mulder, Mrs. William Schalekamp and Mrs. M. Vander Maaten of Alton.

Edward H. Foreman, was born Nov. 18, 1923 at Maurice, Iowa, and was living at R.F.D. Route #5, Le Mars, Iowa prior to entering the Navy on Nov. 19, 1943. Naval organizations under which he served are listed as: Farragut, Idaho; U.S.S. Bunker Hill; and Bremerton, Washington. He left for overseas duty on Feb. 28, 1944, returned on May 5, 1946, and was honorably discharged on May 5, 1946. His application for bonus pay was filed on May 7, 1949, for which he received $385.00.
