Robert Carlson, 80, Stratford, passed away at his home in Stratford on Tuesday, March 14, 2006. Services will be held Friday morning, March 17 at 10 a.m. at the Stratford Baptist Church with Rev. James Mead officiating. Internment with full military honors conducted by Fredrick **Sonksen** Post #576 will be in South Marion Cemetery southeast of Stratford. Friends may call at the Stratford Baptist Church in Stratford on Thursday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. and Friday morning from 8:30 a.m. until the time of service. The family will be present on Thursday evening from 6 to 7:30 p.m. to greet friends.
He was born on October 2, 1925 in Stratford, Iowa the son of Archie and Violet (Neese) Carlson. On February 14, 1949 he married Maxine Wood at Mesa, Arizona. Robert attended Stratford and Stanhope schools. He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the Army in the Pacific Theatre. He farmed the home farm until 1993 when the couple retired and moved to town. He enjoyed watching his grandchildren’s ball games, attending auctions, woodworking, fishing and watching baseball.
He was a member of the Stratford Baptist Church and American Legion Fredrick Sonksen Post #576. He had served on the Board for the Telephone Company as a Director and President and on the Board of Directors for the Elevator.
His parents, two brothers, Bernard in July of 1982, Loran in November of 2000, and one nephew, Rodney in July of 1978 preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife, Maxine, of Stratford, 2 sons, Michael (Konnie) Carlson of Boone, Clarke (Shirley) Carlson of Stratford, four grandchildren, Stacey Carlson of Boone, Katie Carlson of Madrid, Bradley Carlson of Boone, Shawn Carlson of Stratford, one brother, Orville (Alma) Carlson of Story City, nieces and nephews.
Stark-Welin Funeral Home in Stratford, Iowa is in charge of arrangements.
