Sioux City Soldier Wounded in Action
Mrs. C. F. Bates, 1407 W. Fifth Street received a telegram from the adjutant general in Washington Tuesday stating that her son, Warren M. Bates, was wounded in action in the Philippines Islands January 26. Mr. Bates enlisted in the army March 3, 1941.

Warren Melford Bates was born Dec. 19, 1920 to Charles and Jennie Ruth Moore Bates. He died July 2, 1942 and is buried in Manila American Cemetery, Taguig City, Philippines.
Pvt. Bates served in World War II with the U.S. Army 31st Infantry Regiment. He was awarded the Purple Heart.
