Survives Attacks on Convoy Duty

The dangers of convoy duty through the “bomber lane” to Russia are well known to Theodore Baird, 24, son of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Baird, Climbing Hill, Iowa.

With Harold L. Cable of Burlington: Raymond F. Bebout of Des Moines and John Bombgaars of Sheldon, Theodore is among the Iowa boys who are survivors of attacks by u-boats and torpedo planes in the chill waters on the route to Murmansk.

Theodore who was educated in Climbing Hill Schools and formerly was employed at Armour’s plant here, has been serving in t he navy for nine months, seven of which he has seen active duty on the convoy duty in the north Atlantic.
