AIR MEDAL FOR ROBERT BOEYE
W. C. Navigator Received Award at AAF Bomber Station.
Second Lt. Robert B. Boeye, 24, a navigator on a B-17 Flying Fort, has been awarded the air medal at an Eighth air force base somewhere in England, according to a dispatch received by the Freeman-Journal from the bomber station in England.
Son of Mrs. R. M. France of Des Moines but formerly of this city and of Adolph Boeye of Iowa City, Lieutenant Boeye was presented the medal by his group commander, Col. Hunter Harris, Jr.
A graduate of the Webster City high school, Lieutenant Boeye entered the army air force in May, 1942, and received his navigator’s wings in March, 1944, at Selman field, La.
The air medal was awarded for meritorious achievement while participating in heavy bombardment missions in the air offensive against the enemy over continental Europe.

BOEYE RECEIVES THIRD OAK LEAF CLUSTER AWARD
Award of the third oak leaf cluster to the air medal has been made to Second Lt. Robert B. Boeye, 24, former resident of Webster City, at an Eighth air force base in England.
The lieutenant, a graduate of Webster City high school and junior college, received his navigator’s wings at Selman Field, La., in March of this year. He is the son of Mrs. R. M. France of Des Moines and Adolph Boeye of Iowa City.
The official citation read, “The courage, coolness and skill displayed by Lt. Boeye……..reflect great credit upon himself and the armed forces of the United States.”

BACK IN STATES
According to word received here by relatives, First Lt. Robert Boeye, of this city, a navigator aboard a heavy bomber, has returned to the U. S. after nearly a year’s service in the Mediterranean war theater. The air officer holds the air medal plus oak leaf clusters for his outstanding service with the A.A.F.

Robert Byron Boeye was born May 10, 1920 to Adolph N. and Oritha Osmundson Boeye. He died Nov. 20, 1999.
Lt. Boeye served with the U.S. Army Air Corps in World War II as a navigator on a B-17 Flying Fortress. He was awarded the air medal with three oak leaf clusters.
