Perry Robert ‘Bob’ Ayers was born Apr. 11, 1919 to Perry Denver and Sylvia Mildred (Ward) Ayers. He died Jan. 29, 2013 and is buried in North Lawn Cemetery, Fort Dodge, IA.
Bob served with the U.S. Coast Guard in World War II off the coast of Alaska and in the Mediterranean.

Perry Robert (Bob) Ayers, 93, of Fort Dodge, passed away Tuesday, January 29, 2013 at the Paula J. Baber Hospice Home in Fort Dodge.
Visitation will be from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM Friday at the Gunderson Funeral Chapel with a social hour to follow the visitation on Friday evening. A private family service will be held at the Chapel of Peace Mausoleum at North Lawn Cemetery in Fort Dodge with full military honors conducted by the VFW Post #1856 and the United States Coast Guard.
Perry Robert (Bob) Ayers was born to Perry Denver Ayers and Sylvia Mildred (Ward) Ayers in Jewell, IA on April 11, 1919. He attended school in Jewell, graduating and then attending Simpson College and Iowa State University before joining the military. At the onset of WWII, he enlisted in the United States Coast Guard and proudly served his country stationed off the coast of Alaska and in the Mediterranean. He loved to tell his children and grandchildren the stories of his time spent in the armed services. On August 6, 1950, he was united in marriage to the love of his life, Patricia Lou Goodell, in Lake Park, IA. Three daughters were born to this union. Bob, Pat and the girls lived in Jewell and Toledo, IA before moving to Fort Dodge in 1960. Bob worked for the U. S. Postal Service in Fort Dodge and ended his career as postmaster in Clare, IA. He belonged to the First Presbyterian Church of Fort Dodge. He was an avid reader and enjoyed the study of history and science. Up until his final days, he kept current with local and world events. Anyone that knew Bob knew he loved the sport of bicycling. Known as "Spokes", he put thousands of miles on his bike and participated in many RAGBRAIS over the years.
Bob loved his family and his humor and quick wit remained with him until the end. Survivors include his wife, Patricia, of Fort Dodge; three daughters, Tamara (Robert) Kuhn of Newton; Denise (Michael) Olson of Urbandale; and Anita (John) Goodrich of Bondurant. Also six grandchildren; Lisa (Eric) Wiechmann of Huxley; Mike Kuhn of Prague, Czech Republic; Tim Kuhn of Windermere, FL; Joe (Becky) Goodrich of Bondurant; Jeff Goodrich of Iowa City; Andrew Goodrich of Kirksville, MO; four great-grandchildren; Michael and Ella Wiechmann and Jocelyn and Luke Goodrich and one sister, Betty Erickson of Des Moines and her children David Erickson of West Des Moines and Linda Erickson Swenson of San Antonio, TX. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Perry and Sylvia Ayers and brother-in-laws, Quintin Erickson and Harold Goodell.
